July was filled with plenty of cool screenings, from The Odyssey in IMAX 70mm to Robert Rodriguez performing music from his movies and more at the Academy Museum. But the big highlight for me was the week Wes Anderson was in town, first for a 30th anniversary screening of Bottle Rocket at the Academy Museum with Luke Wilson and James L. Brooks, then for a weekend of music from his films at the Hollywood Bowl, which also included a special immersive experience with Criterion. It was a wonderful way of celebrating one of my favorite filmmakers, as well as cinema in general, as I got to chat with a few fellow cinephiles while visiting the mobile Criterion Closet once again! L.A. really spoils a movie lover like me, and I’m eternally grateful to live in this city because of that. August is sure to be another jam-packed month between some exciting programming at my favorite repertory theaters, along with TCM’s annual Summer Under the Stars festival. With all that said, here’s everything I watched over the past month…
