As usual, October was very busy for me: the month started with the continuation of Beyond Fest, and AFI Fest came toward the end. So I caught up with a ton of new releases between the two film festivals, along with other new movies playing in theaters. I also caught a ton of great repertory screenings and many star-studded Q&As I was lucky to attend. That included a double feature of Escape from New York and Escape from L.A. with John Carpenter and Kurt Russell, plus two separate marathons with the respective actors in person: Bruce Dern (The ‘Burbs, Silent Running, The Driver, and Dernsie: The Amazing Life of Bruce Dern), and Michael Douglas (Romancing the Stone, The War of the Roses, Falling Down, and The Game). There are more special theatrical events I could highlight, but my favorite of all was the uncensored director’s cut of Ken Russell’s The Devils! Truly never thought I’d see the day when that film would be so widely available; it’s a movie miracle! With that said, here’s everything I watched over the past 31 days…
