I squeezed in a ton of movies in August, between TCM’s annual Summer Under the Stars festival and plenty of repertory screenings, most of which were at the Academy Museum for their special VistaVision series! It felt like a mini TCM film festival as they programmed more than a dozen films over the course of 11 days that included a few rare projections of VistaVision prints; the VistaVision prints for White Christmas and One Battle After Another were especially stunning to see with vivid colors. The latter screening also included a Q&A with newly minted Oscar winner Paul Thomas Anderson, so that was a very cool bonus. Other exciting screenings I went to this past month included Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice with Dyan Cannon, Mad Max: Fury Road with Charlize Theron, and both Fatal Attraction and Unfaithful with Adrian Lyne. A very eventful month indeed, and as always in L.A., there’s much more to come that I can’t wait to attend. Before then, though, here’s everything I watched at home and in theaters…
