The last full month of summer saw a lot of enjoyable viewings, both in theaters and at home. I kicked off August with the new horror movie Together, which featured a Q&A with director/writer Michael Shanks and stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie (and I got to meet the couple at a pop-up event for the movie a week later!). Other notable screenings with special guests that I attended included Highest 2 Lowest with Spike Lee, Norma Rae with Sally Field, and Drop Dead Gorgeous with Denise Richards. I also must make special mention of a rare screening of the 1972 film Dealing, which featured a wonderful Q&A with filmmaker Paul Williams and stars Barbara Hershey and John Lithgow. Outside of seeing some filmmakers and stars, I also went to a triple feature of some of Elizabeth Taylor’s campiest movies at the Academy Museum, plus I enjoyed a couple of outdoor screenings: Jurassic Park at the Hollywood Bowl, and Psycho at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. And at home, there was TCM’s annual Summer Under the Stars programming, so I caught up with several movies that played on the channel, including the TCM premiere of The Sound of Music. There are still a few movies I wanna catch on demand before summer officially ends… and then fall movie season is in full swing! There’s a lot I’m looking forward to seeing, but until then, here’s everything I watched over the past month…
