Films in 2018: September

September was another busy month, so much so that I only got around to watching a little more than a dozen movies! That included re-watches of the previous versions of A Star Is Born ahead of the new one that comes out this week (can’t wait to see it!) so I may write up a post about all the versions if I have some time. I plan on getting back on track with my movie-watching habits for October, but we’ll see what this month has in store for me. But there are several cool screenings for some classic movies here in Sacramento, including Hitchcock movies every Wednesday this month at one of the local theaters, so I can’t wait for that! Anyway, a quick wrap-up of all I watched the past 30 days…

A Few Favorite Discoveries:

Claudine (1974)

Claudine (1974), directed by John Berry

Claudine was part of TCM’s spotlight The Black Experience on Film, and I just had a great time watching this, especially with the dynamic between Claudine (Diahann Carroll) and Roop (James Earl Jones). I haven’t seen a lot of Jones’s work, but I’m not aware of any other movies where he plays a romantic lead, and if there really aren’t any, it’s a real shame, because he’s so charming in this type of role! Carroll also gives a great performance as the title character, a single mother trying to do what’s best for her six kids as her relationship with Roop quickly develops.
