It’s been a few days since the new year started, but before diving into 2019, I wanted to wrap up what I watched in 2018. I’m not listing all the new-to-me movies I watched this past year (you can look at that on my Letterboxd here, or look through my monthly entries), but I’ll be breaking down my viewing habits and looking at the new releases I saw, all the movies I revisited, and everything I saw in theaters in 2018.
New-to-Me: 282
Re-Watched: 82
Total: 360*
*4 of my re-watches were also films I discovered in 2018, so they weren’t counted again in the grand total.
New-to-Me Films by Decade:
- 1920s – 3
- 1930s – 26
- 1940s – 39
- 1950s – 29
- 1960s – 25
- 1970s – 22
- 1980s – 23
- 1990s – 16
- 2000s – 13
- 2010s – 86
I watched a lot fewer new-to-me movies than I have in past years, my lowest to date since starting my blog. Much of that is due to my personal life becoming a little busier throughout the year. But I did revisit a lot of old favorites, and I was lucky to see a good amount of them in the theater! 2018 had the highest amount of theater trips in a single year for me, between going out to see lots of older movies on the big screen and catching up with new releases.

That about wraps up my 2018 in films, though of course awards season really gets underway tonight with the 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards! As I normally try to do, I may put together a couple of Oscar history-related posts leading up to the 91st Academy Awards, but we’ll see. Anyway, I wish you all a wonderful year in movies in 2019!
Impressive as always.
