I ended up not seeing as many new-to-me movies as I normally like to in July, but overall I saw more than 30 movies. Much of that is due to re-watching all 10 movies Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers did together in preparation for a post I wrote about a week ago on my favorite dances from the duo. I also, of course, made a few trips to the theater and caught up with some new releases, all of which I had a great time watching (with some being featured in my favorites of the month). August is set to be an exciting, busy month for me, so we’ll see how it goes movie-wise, but there’s a lot to look forward to on-screen and off!

A Few Favorite Discoveries:
Sorry to Bother You (2018), directed by Boots Riley
Going into this movie, I was expecting something pretty out there based on the trailer alone, but Sorry to Bother You really exceeded my expectations as far as just how crazy it gets. I don’t want to go too into what happens in this movie, but it’s such a knockout directorial debut from Boots Riley, and it’s best to be seen without knowing too much about it.
Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018), directed by Christopher McQuarrie
The latest installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise is a non-stop thrill ride, with Tom Cruise performing some of his craziest stunts to date. I had a lot of fun watching this on the big screen, and it’s definitely one of my top favorites in the espionage series, which has managed to get better and better with each new movie. Along with Cruise, the rest of the supporting cast has a great dynamic amongst each other and helps elevate Fallout into an awesome action film.
