Films in 2021: August

Hello September! It’s almost hard to believe summer is winding down now, but the good news is my favorite season is just around the corner. As usual, I watched plenty of movies in August, and much of this past month’s viewings came from TCM’s Summer Under the Stars (I still have some catching up to do!). This first day of the month is actually a little busy for me, so I will keep this wrap-up brief, highlighting my favorite movie that I watched thanks to TCM’s annual August program.

A Few Favorite Discoveries:

Stanley & Iris (1990)

Stanley & Iris (1990), directed by Martin Ritt

Stanley & Iris was included as a part of TCM’s day honoring Jane Fonda for Summer Under the Stars, and it’s a movie I had been curious about since it’s the only one that paired the screen legend with the equally legendary Robert De Niro. It’s a smaller, more intimate movie compared to the ones Fonda and De Niro are most known for, but I still found it compelling, especially thanks to the sweet chemistry between the two stars.
