November was another stacked month between watching film noir for Noirvember and keeping up with new releases. And perhaps the most thrilling event of all this month was the grand reopening of the historic Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood! I’ve already seen a handful of films in the newly restored theater, including The Killer with David Fincher, Alien, and both West Side Story and Aliens in 70mm. Another exciting screening was May December with the star-studded cast and crew, and the film itself has become one of my top favorites of the year (and it’s now on Netflix starting today). There are a few other notable screenings I enjoyed, but I’ll wrap this up and just mention that November’s Oscar Sundays series at the Academy Museum was especially thrilling for me, as they got into the spirit of Noirvember with 35mm screenings of noir films with Oscar-nominated (or winning in one case) cinematography: Double Indemnity, Laura, Fargo, and L.A. Confidential. Now I’m ready to get into the holiday spirit with some Christmas movies and more before the year ends. Until then, here’s what I watched over the past 30 days.
